lazy girl's guide to: pretty donuts

Today I wanted to share with you a fun little project I worked on on Friday while little miss was out on a morning breakfast date with Papa. I was inspired by a pretty photo on Pinterest of donuts and I couldn't get it out of my head. Last summer I purchased a cake donut baking pan and let's just say, I'm not too fond of homemade donuts, at least not MY homemade donuts. So, with that hurdle, I came up with a fast and easy way to get the yummy taste of a donut bought at your local donut shop as well as getting your creative juices going while decorating them the way you like! I think this would also be a fun project to do with the kiddos too!

I simply went to my local donut baker and picked up a dozen original glazed donuts, just the plain ones and brought them home. I also stopped at the craft store for some fun cupcake sprinkles in colors I thought were pretty. To make the sprinkles stick, I put a 1/2 cup of powered sugar into a bowl with one tablespoon of water and mixed them together. I spooned the mixed over the tops of the donuts and started decorating them with the sprinkles in color combinations I thought were pretty. The sugar icing only covered about 6 of the donuts so I had to mix together another batch for the rest.

I thought this project was so fun and so easy! I loved how they turned out and the kids were so excited to sink their teeth into them!

Let me know if you give them a try, I'd love to see what you come up with!
